Newton New Terrestrial Pocket Globe 1835


⭕ A rare antique miniature pocket terrestrial globe in its original case. The globe rare small size 2 diameter marked Newtons New Terrestrial Globe 1835 . Consisting of 12 hand coloured gores on a 2 globe with pins through the arctic and antarctic circles allowing it to revolve in the case. Marked with the continents in pink and yellow - fawn , together with some cities. . There is no land mass at the antarctic circle. The tracks of Captain Cook 1776 voyage are shown as is the journey north dated 1778, another dated 1780.. There is another which appears to be labelled Clark & Gore 1780. Various other landmarks including the Great Wall of China . Australia labelled New Holland , the Soviet Union Russian Empire and Tartary . South Africa shown as Caffreria and Hottentot.

The globe is housed in an imitation fish skin case ( pressed paper and card) with the interior a further selection of hand coloured gores. In one half the phases of the moon and the other the seasons of the year.

The globe is in good condition with just some minor loss of varnish . There is no damage or discolouration to the gores which appear to be in very good condition and well coloured. The case retains its original hinge and catches , there may be some slight small repair to the external case . The inside of the case retains well coloured gores with very slight loss to the print in a couple places.
