Theres no doubt Martin has built some very, very special guitars over the years, but one of the very best was the 1993 Limited Edition Guitars of the Month run of only 50 D-45 Deluxe model acoustics, all of them with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides.

HERE IS THE PROTOTYPE MODEL FOR THIS EXCLUSIVE RUN!!!! This exceptionally rare acoustic is numbered 0 of 0 on the label, and has been confirmed by Martin as THE ONLY PROTOTYPE MODEL MARTIN GUITAR EVER PRODUCED BY THE COMPANY WITHOUT THE WORD PROTOTYPE STAMPED INSIDE THE GUITAR.


The label is signed by C.F. Martin IV, and can be seen very clearly in the pictures below. Right underneath the signature is the usual space for the guitars number in the run, which in this case is clearly stamped 0 of 0. The Limited Edition run that followed this prototype model numbered only 50, and is considered by many to be one of the most exclusive model runs in Martin history.


This exceptionally rare and very beautiful acoustic features ultra deluxe Abalone and Mother of Pearl ornamentation throughout, including a stunning Tree of Life inlay atop a beautifully black Ebony fingerboard, with matching inlays on both the pickguard and bridge. The neck is a solid piece of Mahogany, the gorgeous top is made of solid Sitka Spruce with heavy bear claw figure, and the back and sides are made from solid Brazilian Rosewood with one of the most beautiful grain patterns weve ever seen on a guitar. Additionally, the bridge pins, nut and saddle are handcrafted from solid Ivory, and the gold tuners are hand-engraved with an M surrounded by ornamental floral engravings.
